Planning for the Future: Ecological and Human Wellbeing in Building Design

Description:

To address the changes and challenges of the next century, the University of British Columbia has developed a forward-looking green building action plan. It has eight areas of focus: energy; biodiversity; water; place and experience; materials and resources; health and wellbeing; climate adaptation, and quality.  The planning process engaged researchers, staff, students, and consultants to explore priorities, synergies, and co-benefits.

This session will explore in particular the development of the following emergent topics as it relates to architectural design: ecological biodiversity, human health and wellbeing, and climate change adaptation. These nascent planning areas will be grounded with architectural case studies.
